How to Actually Recover From Burnout

Lately, my timeline has become awash with Burnout content. AWASH! Which is great, on the one hand. I’m thrilled that this is being talked about more, and it’s becoming more accepted and ultimately getting addressed in some ways.

However, most of the content I’m seeing is about how to AVOID Burnout. It’s Anti-Burnout and Burnout Prevention Tips, which is all great and very useful if you’re gifted with insight or intervention ahead of your Big Burnout Moment, and you have the opportunity to get on top of it before Burnout strikes.

But if you’re Burning Out right now, stuck in the boiling pot and unable to see the way out… well, taking a couple more breaks in your day and trying Yoga just aren’t going to cut it for you right now while your nervous system is frazzled and your brain is fogged up like an early morning in January, and it can wind up being even more frustrating and debilitating as you keep beating yourself up for not even being able to beat Burnout right.

Recovery from Burnout looks very different to Prevention. Yes, a lot of the tools and processes are the same, but it’s the awareness and application that needs to be different in order to allow you to rest and reset, as well as heal. When I have coaching clients start with me, the very first thing we look at is getting on top of basic human needs, like rest and regular meals and gentle exercise. This is the practical stuff. But none of that works unless you address some other stuff too.

Here’s what you need to do to Recover from Burnout:

  • Get on top of Basic Human Needs

  • Reset your Nervous System

  • Learn Kindness & Self-Compassion

  • Establish Structure & Healthy Habits

  • Connect with your Identity & Values

  • Identify and Address Root Causes

  • Process &/or Grow Beyond Trauma

  • Practice Mindfulness

  • Commit to the Embodiment of Change

And you need to do all of this in an environment that supports your growth and healing.

While the Burnout Recovery journey looks different for everyone, this is the blueprint for all of my Coaching Programmes. Whether it’s One-to-one Coaching, Group Coaching, free Challenges or Workshops, THIS is what forms the foundation of that healing journey, and I’m sharing it with you because this isn’t a secret formula that only I’m allowed to know! It’s something that I want you to be aware of, that I want to encourage you to explore for yourself, and to have in mind when you work with me - whatever capacity that’s in, whether it’s coaching or simply coming to one of my Burnout focussed Yoga or Meditation classes!

It’s also something that is much more easily said than done, and it’s something that is MUCH more manageable with support and guidance.

All of these topics will be covered in my free Beat Burnout Challenge, that runs from this Friday (21 January, 2022) through the following week. The Challenge has free daily training sessions, access to Meditation and Yoga classes, AND a free Group Coaching session at the end of the week. So if you’ve found this post intriguing and you want to know more, make sure you sign up to that Challenge!

If you’re reading this after the Challenge has taken place, don’t worry. This is something I run a few times through the year - along with my Group Coaching programme. I also do FREE 30 minute consultations to help get you on the right track every day - even when I’m booked up with 1:1 Coaching clients like I am now.

So sign up to my Mailing List, and/or book in for a consult and let’s chat about your stress and Burnout and see what the road to recovery looks like for you!
